Federal Minister for Civil Affairs Amor Ali Zaidi has said that his ministry has re-applied for the NOC to run the ferry service.
The Defense Ministry has asked for the NOC of the ferry service to Dubai, Oman, Jeddah, Basra, and is expected to get the same, he said this while addressing industrialists at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry on Friday.
He said that the ministry is going to make several announcements in the new shipping policy, the shipping policy proposes to exempt the sales tax, customs duty by 2030 for ships registered in Pakistan and cargo ships. The Ministry of Naval Affairs has stopped allotment of land.
Ali Zaidi said that upon receiving the responsibilities of Port Qasim, there was a first offer of bribe of Rs 25 lakh per acre for the land, after which the first offer was increased to 150 million per acre. In view of this bribe proposal, the ministry has now sent a proposal of Rs. 4 crore per acre from the land board to remove the bribery case after this proposal.
Ali Zaidi told that the Port and Shipping sector faces various challenges. Everyone was aware that everything was bad. But work has never been done, people have booked land in Port Qasim Industrial Zone for Rs 1 lakh but they are not looking for industries.
Earlier, Korangi Association Trade Industry President Omar Rehan Sheikh said exporting facilities would benefit from providing facilities at the port.
