Today marks the 2019 winter solstice, the beginning of astronomical winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
It also marks the shortest day — and the longest night — of the year.
The moment of the winter solstice will be at 10:19 p.m. CST tonight, or Saturday, Dec. 21. The solstice happens at the same moment no matter where you are on the Earth.
Today will be Sunday, December 22, the longest night of the year, while the shortest day will be. Night duration will be 14 hours and day 10 hours.
After 22 December the duration of night will be less as compare to day.
On 21 and 22 march the time duration of day and night will be equal.
