Government is propelling Yak rearing venture in Gilgit-Baltistan to conquer beef shortage. A preparation session in such manner was held in Governor House Gilgit.
The Project Director of Live Stock division Gilgit-Baltistan parted with nitty gritty preparation to the Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon.
Representative said high height and sloping fields in Gilgit-Baltistan are practical spot for yak reproducing.
In general, the reproductive rate of the yak is low under the normal grazing and rearing conditions of the principal yak territories. Female calves born early in the year may show oestrous for the first time when 16 – 18 months old. But those born later in the season will not show oestrous until they are more than two years old.
