WhatsApp has been gradually phasing out support for various mobile platforms.
For iOS users, there is still some time left, but not more than a couple of months left. The Facebook-owned instant messaging service provider will ditch support for handsets running older operating systems by 2020.
From February 1, 2020, any Phone running iOS 8 or older will no longer be supported. ‘On iOS 8, you can no longer create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts,’ the company said in a blog post.
From February 1, 2020, WhatsApp will not work on any Android device running version 2.3.7 or older .
However, all people using smartphones running a Windows operating system have just one more day of WhatsApp use left – December 31, 2019. The website state: “WhatsApp will no longer support Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019, and the app might not be available on the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019.”
In a previous post, WhatsApp had said: ‘This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp.’
