The best scientific awards from China was presented by renowned Pakistani scientist Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-rahman at a ceremony held here on Friday at the People’s Hall.
The ceremony was attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping and senior officials from the Chinese government. Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Nahgmana Alamgir Hashmi, according to an official statement published here, has also been present on the occasion.
China’s most prestigious National Science and Technology Award is International Technological and Scientific Cooperation Award. It is granted to foreign researchers, engineers, or organizations that have contributed significantly to Chinese bi-or multilateral cooperation in science and technology.
In recognition of his major contributions in chemistry, Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman won the “China International Science and Technology Cooperation Prize” for the year 2020.
Professor Atta-ur-Rahman currently serves as Chairman of the Science and Technology Premier, Vice-Chair of the Technology-based Knowledge Economic Task Force of the Prime Minister and co-chairman of the Information Technology Task Force.
But he was also a federal science and technology minister and a chairman of the Higher Education Committee.
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman is Pakistan’s top-ranked scientist, who received four civilian awards including Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Nishan-i-Imtiaz’s top national prize.
About Prof. Atta ur Rahman
He obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Cambridge University (1968). He has 1250 publications in several fields of organic chemistry including 775 research publications, 45 international patents, 69 chapters in books and 341 books published largely by major U.S. and European presses.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of eight European Chemistry journals and is editor of the world’s leading encyclopedic series of volumes on natural products “Studies in Natural Product Chemistry” 62 volumes of which have been published under his editorship? during the last two decades.
As many as 82 students have completed their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision. He has also been awarded various national and international awards in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of science and technology.
