Pakistan Becomes world Largest Importer of Kenyan Tea

By purchasing 40% of the country’s overall production, Pakistan has become the world’s largest import of kenyan tea, Media.

In the last 10 months Pakistan imported tea worth KSh35 billion, according to information from the Kenyan Tea Directorate

During its importation of 14.8 million kilograms of tea, the directorate told the country that it has become a major buyer of the Kenya drink.

The data showed that the auction exported a total of 420 million kilograms. During the same duration of last year, Pakistan imported 394 million kilograms of tea.

In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, on 3 March last year, Pakistan had imported tea worth $347,305 million, showing an increase of 2.15 percent over the corresponding period of last year compared to $339,992 million.

Pakistan has imported 132,748 metric tones of tea (PBS) from $339,992 metric tons during June-January (2018-19), with a rise of 20.52 percent in quantity, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Data were discovered from PBS in July-January (2017-18).

The overall food imports into the country declined by 8.29 per cent during the period under review. The total food imports into the country during the first seven months of the current year were recorded at $3464.490 million against the imports of $3777.472 million during the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
