Telenor and PMCL (jazz) contracts worth 680 millions in total for the Kurram and Sanghar Lots were approved by the Ministry of Information Technology.
A contract is awarded to PMCL (Jazz) by Kurram Lot and to Telenor by Next Generation Broadband for Sustainable Development (NG-BSD) Programme.
Federal Secretary Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui chaired 68th Board of Directors meeting of Universal Service Fund Company.
The Chairman of the meeting was Chairman PTA Maj Gen (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa.
It initiative is part of the government’s holistic strategy and to improve Digital Pakistan’s connectivity pillar.
The President of the USF Council was informed of the progress of USF programs during the conference, and Secretary IT was told. Kurram Lot’s High Speed Broadband Services will support our population of about 400,000 and will cover about 200 of our muazas, and approximately 2,900 sq. Kilometers away.
Kurram Lot includes Kurram, Kurram and Upper Kurram border areas. Similarly, the Hi-Speed Broa would support our population of approximately 1.4 million.
The Lot is made up of districts of Sanghar and Umerkot with approximately 12,000 sq. 500 mauzas, km and 500.
Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, Chairman of the USF and Secretary of IT, stressed that Pakistani citizens had no access to the most recent ICT services.
He also said that these ventures would put Kurram and Sanghar people in line with the broader society and help solve the problems of analphabetism, poverty and unemployment.
The Federal Secretary also welcomed the latest expression of support by the prime minister for Digital Pakistan’s ongoing and ongoing work.
He underlined the importance of continuing to support and promote the adoption of the vision of the Ministry of IT and Telecom.
However, he appreciated the valuable contribution made by other Board members to progress on the implementation of USF projects.
The Board greatly appreciated Chairman USF Board and Secretary IT for providing guidance and wisdom to accomplish USF mission.
Other board members comprising Shabahat Ali Shah, Executive Director, NITB; Ifran Wahab, CEO-Telenor Cluster Head for Emerging Asia and Nominee of Mobile Cellular Operators; Imran Akhtar Shah, VP for Government Sales, Super Net Pvt Ltd and Nominee of Data Licensees; Rashid Khan, CEO PTCL and Nominee of Fixed Line Operators; Kaukab Iqbal, Chairman, Consumer Association of Pakistan and Nominee of Consumer Group and management of USF Co. also attended the meeting.
