Instagram Removes IGTV Button From Home Screen

Instagram would probably delete the IGTV icon from the home screen on Android and iOS mobile apps. The decision was apparently taken as “very low” persons used the icon to watch IGTV footage, supposed to have been first mentioned by TechCrunch.

According to a Facebook speaker, most people use their feeds, the different’ Explorer ‘ channels, the user profiles and even the special IGTV application to access the company’s video streaming service.

The improvements seem to be a result of Facebook’s attempts to simplify the process of uploading videos to IGTV. The new Interface allows users to upload videos to the site in the form of uploading photos and videos in the main feed, according to the company.

After introducing the changes, users can choose between short and long videos by clicking the’ Plus’ sign in the bottom area of the Instagram feed. While the stream can only contain short videos for up to 60 seconds, IGTV had been designed specifically for longer videos.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, an Instagram spokesperson said that the new plan will make it more intuitive for both users and creators. According to a statement to AdWeek

“Our goal is to create a central place for video uploads that will simplify the experience for creators, who can now leverage the feed upload button for both short and long video uploads. We always aim to keep Instagram as simple as possible, so we’re removing this icon based on these learnings and feedback from our community”.
