A social media company regulator has been set up by the Ministry of Information Technology. To order to protect its people online, the IT Ministry has adopted laws. According to the proposed rules, all social media companies such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Daily Motion and others will have to register within 3 months. In the capital, Islamabad, all social media firms will build their office.

Under the new rules, the companies are bound to hire local Pakistani focal persons.
Action will be initiated against a company if it fails to remove objectionable material within six hours of the complaint.
