Govt Raises PTV Fee From Rs35 to Rs100

The government increased the Rs35-Rs100 national television fee.

The national television fee is collected by loading it on the electricity bills of consumers every month.

This means that citizens have to pay the amount whether they watch the channel or not, reported the Geo News on Saturday.

The increased fee means that an estimated Rs21 billion will be collected from consumers annually.

This will be significantly more than the previous collections, which amounted to Rs7.5 billion per year. Separately, the government also earns revenue from private advertisements run on PTV.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government has not yet paid Rs6bn in arrears to the media houses for advertisements.
