Women’s First: Punjab Government sets PKR 7.1 Billion for Women Development and Population Welfare

For Women Development and population welfare programs, Punjab government has allocated PKR 7.1 billion to the 2020-21 financial budget. The provincial government has a budget for Non-Development PKR 5.4 billion and a budget for Development for PKR 1.7 billion.

The government of Usman Buzdar led Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Insaf, has constantly claimed that the government is concentrating on women ‘s growth in the province. PKR 1.01 milliard has been allocated to the expansion of family-well-being centers and the implementation of community-based family planning staff. An amount of PKR 53 million has been allocated for Franchising of Clinical Services (Phase-II).

It is pertinent to note that Punjab government announced the Annual Development Programme (ADP) worth Rs337 billion, up by 9.42 per cent from PKR 308bn last year, for the fiscal year 2020-21 with a focus on economic stimulus in the backdrop of COVID-19.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in his message on the Annual Budget for the FY 2020-21 said, “Annual budget is uniquely inclusive. Its formulation involved a meaningful engagement with the citizens of Punjab, a maiden feature. Accordingly, the sectoral allocations under this budget have been guided by citizens’ preferences directly.

Citizens’ Budget is an important effort in the spirit of inclusive and accountable governance. Budget 2020-21 is indeed a representation of Government’s resolve to build a welfare state based on the fundamentals of equity, public-value and social justice.”

“I appreciate the efforts of Finance Minister and entire Finance team for their untiring efforts during difficult period of late and coming up with a result oriented budget for another year full of challenges,” the CM said.
