Wonder What Space Smells Like? This Astronaut-Verified Fragrance has the Answer

Have you ever thought what space smells like? A perfume will soon be available to the common people which will give answer to this question.

A kickstarter for Eau De Space has been launched in an attempt to make the perfume available to the common man. According to the website, the fragrance was made solely to train astronauts and remove any element of surprise for when they go to space.

The product description on the website says, “Decades ago, NASA designed a fragrance to train astronauts on how Outer Space actually smells. Now we’re releasing it to the world. (sic)”

The website also revealed that the fragrance has been verified by astronauts. “What does Space smell like? We connected with NASA to bring the world’s first perfume, independently verified by actual astronauts, down to Earth,” it read.

In an interview to CNN, the product manager Matt Richmond revealed that the perfume was made by Steve Pearce, who is also the owner of Omega Ingredients. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) had contacted Pearce to make the fragrance in 2008 and it took him 4 years to successfully make it.

Astronaut Peggy Whitson, who was a former resident of the International Space Station, had told CNN in a 2003 interview that space smells similar to a “gun right after you fire a shot.”

That is not all, Richmond also said if the Eau De Space is a hit with the people, the company will also plan to release a fragrance called the Smell Of The Moon.
