UET install of 1 MW Solar Plant Under ESCO Model in Cooperation with Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (PEECA)

Ground breaking ceremony held to convert University of Engineering and Technology to solar energy.

The project will be completed by September 15, 2020, as per the statement issued by the Public Relations Department, UET.

Punjab Minister for Energy, Dr Muhammad Akhter Malik was the chief guest. The minister and UET Lahore Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar laid the foundation of solar project.

Punjab Minister for Energy, Dr Muhammad Akhter Malik in a tweet said, “Today we are doing our first groundbreaking ceremony. 60 MW electricity generation, PKR 1.03 Billion annual and 25.66 Billion financial savings in 25 years due to Solarisation of all the universities in Punjab! That’s our target.

The generating capacity of the project is 1MWp while after the completion of this project the university will get an annual benefit of PKR 170 million.

Punjab Energy Minister talking to media highlighted the importance of solar energy in the province and universities.

He said, this project is first major step towards clean and green Pakistan and Punjab will extend the project of solarization to all other universities in Punjab.

Minister said, So far, several MoUs have been signed to shift 11 universities of Punjab to solar, while the Punjab government has not spent a single rupee on these projects.

He said that he was getting full support from Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Usman Buzdar for these projects and they are making untiring efforts to provide affordable and environment friendly energy in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision.
