According to details, a high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar in which the Punjab government took a major step to provide facilities to the people at their doorstep and approved the introduction of biometric system for vehicle registration.
Under this, instead of transfer order form, biometric verification will enable registration of vehicles while necessary amendments will be made in Punjab Motor Vehicles Rules, 1969.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar said that the citizens would be relieved from the hassle of visiting the offices of Excise and Taxation Department, adding that the vehicle registration system was being brought in line with modern requirements.
Saman Bazdar said that biometric verification will also be possible in the showrooms of authorized dealers of vehicles, the process of biometric verification from mobile phone at home should be reviewed.
He further said that the process of issuance of number plates of vehicles should be expedited. He said that there was a problem of non-receipt of number plates.
