The State Bank of Pakistan has made it possible for Pakistanis abroad to submit documents for verification of bank accounts, while bank accounts of Pakistanis abroad will be activated without biometric verification.
These bank accounts can be opened with Pakistani Rupee or any foreign currency or both currencies simultaneously. In case of simultaneous opening of both the currencies, the currency will be exchanged with real time rate.
In this regard, SBP has provided a link on its website which contains the bank account opening forms of all the banks. In addition to filling out these forms, online documentation and photo uploads are also available. The account will be activated 48 hours after completing the form and sending the documents.

The SBP has also clarified the terms and conditions of certification under which bank account holders are divided into three categories, including non-resident Pakistanis, temporarily residing abroad and joint account holders.
According to SBP Director Muhammad Akhtar Javed, non-resident Pakistanis will have to send the required documents to verify their bank accounts.
- Account holder’s proof of being a non-resident Pakistani through valid passport, visa, residence permit or other certified documents.
- Copy of ID card or Nikop
- Bank account number
- Certificate to notify the bank in case of change of residential status
The statement said that the information provided would be verified by the concerned bank through NADRA.
