Asia Cup Most Likely to be Postponed: PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani on Sunday revealed that Asia Cup, which was supposed to take place in June this year, is likely to be postponed to 2023, The News reported.

Addressing members of the media at a press conference in Karachi, Mani said that the event cannot be hosted in June because the final of International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Championship will take place at the same time.

“The Asia Cup was scheduled last year and postponed to 2021 but it seems that this year, too, it will be impossible to hold,” he said. “In June, the final of the ICC Test Championship is going to be held. Sri Lanka has pledged that they would try to host the Asia Cup in June and now there is a clash of dates of Asia Cup and Test Championship final.”

Mani further said that he feels that the tournament will find its next window in 2023.

The PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan also added to this, saying that the Asia Cup may not be held this year. “It seems that India has reached the ICC Test Championship final and will play against New Zealand,” he said.

“And because of this, Asia Cup will not be held. Now we are waiting for confirmation but we are clear that it will not be held this year,” Wasim added.
