BAIC Pakistan’s official Facebook page has shared images of the first locally assembled BJ40 Plus SUV that is set to go on sale very soon. Interestingly, the date mentioned for the “start of production” is 28th May 2021.
The BJ40 is a compact off-road SUV that looks like a cross between the JL series Jeep Wrangler and the brand new Land Rover Defender. It is a unique vehicle that currently appears to have no direct competitors in the Pakistani market, particularly amongst the locally manufactured SUVs.
The BAIC BJ40 is a proper off-roading vehicle with a ladder-frame chassis, high ground clearance and a decent approach angle. The BJ40 will be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 218 hp of power and 270 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to either front or all four wheels depending on the variant.
The vehicle will be well-equipped with dual-tone interior, digital speedometer, detachable roof, dual airbags, ABS+EBD, rear anti-spin differential, 7” touchscreen multimedia system with DVD/ MP3/ AUX/ USB, rear parking sensors & engine immobilizer etc.
There is no official word on the pricing yet but according to sources, it will be positioned competitively in the market. Now that the local production of BAIC BJ40 Plus has already commenced, we can expect the vehicle to be officially launched very soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
