All You Need to Know About Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal Wedding

At long last Bollywood stars, Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal finally got married on 9 December in India. The couple announces this on social media along with pictures of their big day.

The wedding was held in Jaipur at the Six Senses Fort hotel and was shrouded in mystery. The official announcement follows weeks of intense coverage — almost stalking — by the Indian media. They were finally able to announce the news on their own terms after weeks of secrecy and NDAs.

Katrina and Vicky both wore outfits designed by ace fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee on their wedding day. Sabyasachi’s Heritage Collection was even used for their wedding jewelry. Katrina Kaif chose a red wedding dress, just like a traditional Indian bride. She accessorized her lehenga with custom bridal jewelry. In case you missed it, the actress was also seen on her wedding day wearing red choodas with kaleeras.

Kaif wore a red bridal lehenga made of handwoven matka silk with fine tilla work and velvet borders diligently embroidered with revival zardozi. Her veil paid homage to Kaushal’s Punjabi roots and was handcrafted. Her dupatta had handmade kiran in hand-beaten silver electroplated in gold as a nod to the groom’s Punjabi roots.

Her jewelry was also by Sabyasachi and was described as “bespoke bridal jewelry of uncut diamonds in 22k gold detailed with hand-strung pearls.”Kaushal was dressed in an ivory silk sherwani with beautiful marori embroidery and special Sabyasachi handcrafted gold plated Bengal Tiger buttons, which he matched with a silk kurta and churidar.

His shawl was made of tussar georgette and had zari marori embroidery on the pallu and borders. Sabyasachi’s gold banarasi silk tissue safa is matched with a handcrafted kilangi and specially designed necklace peppered with emeralds, brilliant-cut and rose-cut diamonds, quartz, and tourmalines in 18k gold.

What is kaleera?

Kaleeras are commonly seen at north Indian weddings. Long gold ornaments dangling from a bride’s wrists are difficult to miss. So after the ceremony, the bride attempts to drop a kaleera on the heads of her bridesmaids. If it falls on someone, he or she is supposed to be the next in line to marry.
