Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 10.5″ Unveiled with a Faster Chipset, Larger Screen

Samsung has updated its low-cost Galaxy Tab A tablet with slightly improved performance, a slightly larger screen, more storage, and multitasking features to help you work or study from home.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 10.5 (2021) pursues a 10.5″ LCD with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 px. That’s a 16:10 aspect ratio, which means the display has slightly more vertical space than the Tab A7’s 10.4″ 15:9 display. There are four Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers, as before, for an immersive audio experience.

The new Tab A8 slate includes built-in entertainment in the form of Samsung TV Plus, which provides streaming of 200+ free channels (live and on-demand, available in select markets), as well as two months of YouTube Premium for free.

However, with split-screen multitasking and floating windows, it can also be used as a work tablet. It also supports Drag & Split from One UI 3.1.1, which was released earlier this year for 2020 Galaxy flagships. This does not imply that the tablet will ship with Android 11.

According to Samsung, the new chipset has a 10% increase in CPU performance and a 10% increase in GPU performance. However, the company does not name the chipset. According to unofficial information, it is a Unisoc Tiger T618, a 12 nm chipset with two Cortex-A75 cores and six A55 cores, as well as a Mali G52 MP2 GPU. This replaces the Tab A7’s Snapdragon 662 processor (11 nm, four Cortex-A73, and four A53 based cores, Adreno 610).

The base model, like the previous model, has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. This year, a new memory configuration, 4/128 GB, replaces the 4/64 GB option. If you don’t require fast storage, the microSD slot allows you to save money. There is a 5MP camera on the front (with a fixed focus lens) and an 8MP camera on the back if you need to participate in a video call.

The Galaxy Tab A8 will be available in two variants: one with Wi-Fi only and one with LTE for on-the-go connectivity. Both have Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5 capabilities. Wired connectivity consists of a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a USB-C 2.0 port (no DeX support, as that is reserved for S-series devices). A 7,040mAh battery powers the tablet. Although it supports 15W fast charging, the retail package only includes a 7.5W charger.

Later this month, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) will be available in Europe. The tablet will be priced at €230, according to Samsung’s Dutch branch (basically the same as last year). It will be available in the United States and other regions in January. It will be available in Gray, Silver, and the newly introduced Pink Gold color.
