Punjab’s Education Minister Announces New School Schedule

The Punjab government has issued a new schedule for public and private schools in Rawalpindi and Lahore due to an increase in coronavirus cases in both districts.

Dr. Murad Raas, the provincial minister of education, has announced that classes 1 through 6 will be staggered until February 15, meaning that half of the students in these classes will attend school on alternate days.

Meanwhile, students in Classes 7 through 12 will have regular lessons with 100% attendance because students aged 12 and up are required to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Dr. Raas has also asked students and teachers to follow the provincial Health Department’s COVID-19 SOPs.

As the country struggles to contain the spread of the coronavirus, NCOC extended all existing COVID-19 restrictions on various sectors, including education, until February 15th. We will meet again on February 10 to discuss these restrictions.

The NCOC will also begin a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination campaign for students over the age of 12 on February 1st. Aggressive sentinel testing is already underway in educational institutions for targeted closures in areas where the virus is prevalent.
