Regardless of their “immune” status, all Umrah pilgrims arriving in Saudi Arabia will be required to present a negative PCR or antigen test report taken within 48 hours of departing for the Kingdom, the Kingdom’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced.
The ministry also stated that these measures, which aim to protect visitors’ safety and health, will go into effect on February 9, 2022.
The COVID-19 pandemic had halted Umrah and Hajj. Due to the pandemic, the Kingdom limited the Hajj pilgrimage to 60,000 residents and nationals living in the Kingdom last year.
Earlier this month, the Kingdom’s authorities mandated booster shots in order for people over the age of 18 to be considered “immune” in the country’s contact-tracing Tawakkalna app.
Authorities also passed legislation requiring all arrivals into the Kingdom to present a negative PCR or antigen test report within 48 hours of departing and arriving in the Kingdom.
