According to a popular WhatsApp feature tracker, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that could allow users to create polls in group chats. The world’s most popular messaging service is currently working on a few features that will be released to beta testers soon, including the ability to respond to specific messages with emoji.

Group polls are already available in other messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and Threema, and they may make their way into a future WhatsApp version.

Feature leaker WABetaInfo discovered a new group polls feature in development on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS. Because the feature is still in development, it is not available to users even on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS.

The feature tracker shared a screenshot of the process of adding a new poll to a group on WhatsApp for iOS, giving users an idea of how the feature will look once it is released.

According to the feature tracker, the new group polls feature, like messages, attachments, and phone calls made on WhatsApp should be protected by end-to-end encryption. This should limit access to the poll and its results to the group’s members. While the feature has only been seen on WhatsApp for iOS, it is expected to appear on WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp Desktop in the near future.
