Arshad Sharif, a well-known Pakistani anchorman, was shot dead in Kenya, according to his wife’s tweet on Monday. However, a renowned Kenyan newspaper said that the journalist was murdered by police in a “mistaken identity” incident.
For years, Sharif’s talk show Power Play, which has criticized both the military and Pakistan’s new prime minister, Shahbaz Sharif, was broadcast Monday through Thursday on the ARY news channel. He left the country in August after comments made by a politician on a news program that he (Arshad) was “seditious” by the government and media watchdog of the state. He was himself seen as a severe opponent of the current governing coalition and army.
After the channel’s license was canceled and it was stopped due to the allegedly seditious comments, the channel said they were no longer working with Sharif.
According to the authorities, journalist Arshad Sharif was shot in Kenya, his wife Javeria Siddique tweeted. “I lost my buddy, my husband, and my favorite journalist [Ashad Sharif] tonight.” Observe our privacy. Keep us in mind when praying.

According to a statement in Kenya’s Star newspaper, Sharif and his driver “apparently violated a roadblock that had been set up to check on motor vehicles using the route.”
The newspaper reported that the murder would be investigated by Kenya’s Independent Policing Oversight Authority.
According to authorities, during the roadblock, a request was made for officers to stop a vehicle resembling the one they were traveling in after a carjacking incident in the Pangani neighborhood of Nairobi during which a child was held, hostage. They were stopped and asked to identify themselves once Sharif’s automobile appeared at the roadblock a short while later, according to the Star.
They apparently failed to stop the car and crossed the blocked road. This was the main reason for shooting him and leaving Sharif dead. Their car missed the balance, and their driver got injured when they shifted to the hospital.
The news of Sharif’s passing shocked his coworkers and friends.
