HEC Announces Foreign Scholarships Program for Pakistani Students

The Higher Education Commission has announced 75 National Top Talent Scholarships for Pakistani students who wish to enroll in MS and Ph.D. programs abroad.

The Pakistani government announced 40 Ph.D. and 35 MS scholarships for citizens of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir to attend the top 25 universities in the world (based solely on QS or Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings), according to a state-run news agency citing reliable sources. This was done to commemorate Pakistan’s 75th year of independence.

Our sources informed us that recipients of the scholarships would only be required to provide documentation proving their acceptance into the specific universities and subject areas.

The applicant must be a citizen of either Pakistan or Azad Kashmir, per the eligibility requirements.
The candidates must have a confirmed/unconditional admission to one of the top 25 universities in the world for their chosen subject.

For MS Scholarships, a BS/BE/degree, Master’s, or the equivalent of 16 years of education in a relevant field of study is the minimum requirement. The minimum requirement for Ph.D. scholarships is an MS/MPhil/ME degree, which is the equivalent of 18 years of education in a relevant field of study.

Basic Criteria for the scholarship:

  • A maximum of one 2nd Division may be earned prior to receiving the final degree.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 out of 4.0 and 3.75 out of 5.0 in the semester system or 1 Division (in the yearly system) is required for candidates for the terminal degree.
  • The maximum age on the closure date should be 40 years old for full-time regular faculty members at public sector universities, degree-awarding institutions, and colleges as well as employees of public sector organizations; the maximum age should be 35 years old for everyone else.
  • The candidates must not already be receiving any scholarships.
  • Applications must be submitted online via the HEC e-portal, which can be accessed at https://eportal.hec.gov.pk.
  • It is crucial to remember that the scholarships will be given out according to first come, first served.
  • Candidates must fulfill the requirements of the host university in order to be accepted, which may include taking the TOEFL or the international GRE.
  • Conditional enrollment or admission will not be considered.
  • If any information is found to have been inaccurate or misrepresented at any time, the application process will be terminated.
  • The scholarship recipient will be required to sign a bond with HEC pledging to serve for three years (for MS scholarships) or five years (for Ph.D. scholarships) after finishing his or her studies.
  • Candidates are advised to read all program details before filling out or submitting the online application form. Modification requests won’t be taken into consideration after the online application has been submitted.

  • To get admitted, candidates must meet the host university’s requirements, which may include taking the international GRE or TOEFL. It is advised that they take part in these exams.
