On March 1st, 2023, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is scheduled to release a new list of Active Taxpayers for the tax year 2022.
The new list will include the names of people who filed their income tax returns by the deadline or those who filed their annual returns after the deadline but with payment of a late filing fee.

For all taxpayers, including salaried people, people who are in business for themselves, groups of people, and companies with special fiscal years, the deadline for filing an income tax return is September 30. The deadline for filing an annual return for businesses with a regular accounting year is December 31.
After numerous extensions, the deadline for the tax year 2022 was finally met on December 15, 2022. The ATL is therefore open to everyone who filed their returns by December 15, 2022. Those who submitted their paperwork after the deadline but before the surcharge was due are also eligible.
Additionally, the current ATL for the tax year 2021 is set to expire on February 28, 2023.
FBR officials claim that as of March 1, 2023, taxpayers who failed to file an income tax return for the tax year 2022 will no longer be eligible to benefit from lower withholding tax rates.
The new ATL will be released by the FBR on March 1, 2023, based on the income tax returns submitted for the tax year 2022 through February 28, 2023.
According to the FBR’s officials, as of February 20, 2023, there were 4.2 million active taxpayers.

The ATL claims to have a central database of individuals who filed online income tax returns for the prior tax year.
ATL is also published on March 1 of each fiscal year and is valid through the end of February of the following fiscal year, according to the statement.
The Active Taxpayer List for Tax Year 2020, for instance, was released on March 1, 2021, and it is valid through February 28, 2022. The Active Taxpayer List for Tax Year 2021 will be released on March 1, 2022, and it will be good until February 28, 2023.
