After Snapstreaks were introduced, many users became fixated on keeping them up, even keeping hundreds-strong streaks with multiple friends. Because life can get in the way, their popularity may have slightly declined, but Snap has introduced an experimental feature that may help you keep things on track even if you miss a day. You can now easily pretend that the traumatic experience never happened by tapping Restore.

The catch is that each free Snap Restore is limited to one user. According to TechCrunch, you’ll need to purchase additional restores from the app for $1 each in the US if you want to stop more Snapstreaks from expiring. In addition, the company promised to “soon” roll out a new feature that will allow Snapchat+ subscribers to freeze their streaks for extended periods of time. Snap did not specify how users would be able to “pause things when they know they’re going off the grid,” despite its claim that this feature would allow users to do so.

These new feature announcements follow Snap’s recent addition of an OpenAI chatbot that is comparable to ChatGPT to its app. Although Snap admits it could “be tricked into saying just about anything” and has even apologized in advance for its “many deficiencies,” the chatbot appears as a regular user profile, probably to make it seem more like a virtual friend. The chatbot is currently only accessible to Snapchat+ subscribers who pay $4 per month for the service, but the company has plans to expand its accessibility.
