Long wait times are common for those applying for passports, a necessary travel document.
Sources claim that the increase in passport applications has caused the delivery of passports to be delayed by more than twice as long.
According to sources, the standard and urgent delivery times for passports have been extended to 7 days and 21 days, respectively, due to the sharp increase in passport applications. However, the fast-track passport’s delivery period has been shortened to four days.

Additionally, the series of text messages sent to applicants’ mobile phones regarding various stages of passport processing have also been delayed.
The text messaging feature on the applicants’ mobile phones automatically generated two messages. The first text message refers to the processing of the passport being finished at the time of collection and receipt for printing.
The second message pertains to how the passport was printed and when it was delivered to the appropriate office. Message delays have prevented applicants from receiving updates on the status of their passport applications.
