He continued, “The price of HS has not increased in honor of Ramadan despite the increases.” It is important to note that most of Pakistan’s major automakers raised their prices after introducing a 25% GST on luxury items starting on March 8, 2023.
In his speech on the Finance (Supplementary) Act 2023, Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar declared that the government will charge a 25% General Sales Tax (GST) on luxuries. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) published the list of luxury items on March 8. Surprisingly, all cars with a displacement of 1400cc or more, SUVs, CUVs, and 44 cabin vehicles were considered luxury goods.

The companies have been raising their prices since the announcement. Notably, these are their third or fourth price increases for some companies, underscoring the industry’s predicament.
