Saudi Arabia Changes Nationality Law to Offer Citizenship

In a significant policy shift, Saudi Arabia has officially changed the nationality law. The amendment now allows some individuals to obtain citizenship on Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi Prime Minister’s, order, as a result of a suggestion from the Interior Minister.

This significant decision was published in the official gazette “Um Al Qura” on Friday and modifies Article 8 of the Saudi Nationality Law.

Before and after are very different from one another. Previously, Article 8 of the Executive Regulations of the Saudi Nationality Law required the Minister of Interior’s consent before conferring nationality on a person. But it’s no longer necessary to get permission from the interior minister.

Immediately following publication in the Official Gazette, this decision will come into force.
Many people are curious about this option, especially in light of the criteria the government employs to decide who is eligible for citizenship.
