How to Apply for 5-Year UAE Residency Visa as Skilled Worker, Freelancer

The UAE has announced the launch of the five-year Green Visa in an effort to entice talented people and investors from all over the world.

This new visa is a component of a broad set of regulations intended to support the flexibility of the labor market.

The Green Residence Visa is intended especially for people with exceptional talent, highly skilled professionals, independent contractors, investors, or business owners.

According to the Abu Dhabi Residents Office (ADRO), a special kind of residence visa known as the “Green Visa” enables foreign talent to sponsor themselves, negating the need for employment in the United Arab Emirates.

The emirate of Abu Dhabi has a number of high-growth industries that are opening up chances for talented people to develop, succeed, and grow.

The Green Visa grants visa holders and their families long-term residency as well as a number of advantages. It is a better choice than the typical residence visa because it allows parents to sponsor unmarried daughters of any age and sons up to the age of 25. The Green Visa provides various visa options for professionals, independent contractors, investors, and partners. It is valid for five years.

Green visa for freelancers/self-employed

Those who are independent contractors or self-employed and meet the following requirements are eligible, according to ADRO:
• Have a Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) freelance work permit.
• A bachelor’s degree, a specialized diploma, or an equivalent is the required level of education.
• For the previous two years, the self-employment income per year was at least Dh360,000 or equivalent in foreign currencies.
Or
• Providing evidence of financial stability for the entire period of residency in the UAE.

Requirements

In order to submit a request for a Freelance Visa, you must:

  • • An authorization from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) to work as a freelancer.
  • Evidence of Dh360,000 in annual income for the previous two years;
  • Evidence of your ability to pay your rent during your stay.

How to apply

On their website, https://icp.gov.ae, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) accepts applications for green visas in accordance with their rules and regulations.

Green visa for skilled workers

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE), skilled workers must be classified in the first, second, or third occupational levels in order to apply for a green visa, according to InADRO.

According to the International Standard Classification of Occupations, MoHRE has nine different job skill levels.

A bachelor’s degree in one of a number of skilled fields, such as science, law, education, culture, or the social sciences is also required. The employee should also have a valid work contract in the UAE with a salary of Dh15,000.

If they meet the following requirements, skilled workers are eligible:
• Have a valid employment contract in the UAE that they used to obtain a work permit.
• Holding a first-, second-, or third-level position as a skilled worker according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization
• Be in possession of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent
• Earn a minimum monthly salary of Dh15,000 or the equivalent amount in another currency.

Requirements

You must submit the following in order to apply for the Skilled Employee category:
• A legitimate MOHRE employment contract, or its equivalent, that verifies the employee’s job title and monthly income.
• A bachelor’s degree that has been attested or an equivalent

Green visa for investors

Investors who open businesses or engage in commercial activity in the UAE are granted the Green Investor Visa. It replaces the previous residency permit, which was only good for two years.

Requirements include

  • Acceptance of the ICP on the investment in accordance with the implemented investors’ rating system
  • Evidence of investment (if the investor or partner holds multiple licenses, the total amount invested will be calculated).
  • Acceptance from the relevant local authorities
