Results of Pakistan’s First-Ever Digital Population Census Are Out

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Chief Census Commissioner and Chief Statistician, Naeem uz Zafar, has announced the preliminary findings of the seventh national and first-ever digital population census.

The Census Commissioner announced during a press conference that there are now 249,566,743 people living in Pakistan (249.5 million or 25 crore).

  • Punjab is the most populous province, with a population of over 127,474,000 (127.4 million or 12.7 Crore), according to the breakdown by province.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a population of over 39,823,000 (39.7 million or 3.9 crore), while Sindh has a population of over 57,931,000 (57.9 million or 5.7 crore).
  • Balochistan has a population of over 21,977,000 (21.9 million, or 2.1 crore), compared to Islamabad’s 2,359,422 (2.3 million, or 23 lac) citizens.

The population of Pakistan has grown by 49 million (or 4.9 crore) since the last census, according to the Census Commissioner. According to the Census Commissioner, the first-ever digital census will cost the national exchequer more than Rs. 34 billion overall.
