Super Fast Gigabit Fiber Internet is Coming to 11 Cities in Pakistan Soon

According to government documents made available, Pakistan will soon have ultra-fast gigabit fiber internet in eleven cities.

In this document, the budget details for the Public Sector Development Project (PDSP) for the years 2022–2024 are highlighted. The Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives is represented by a summary of ongoing projects, upcoming projects, and more.

It highlights a new plan for a project that will extend Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) Fiber to the Home (FTTH) services to eleven cities under the umbrella of the Information Technology and Telecom Division.

In other words, as was already mentioned, extremely fast gigabit internet is soon to be available in more cities. Since the project’s approval status is still “under process,” it will most likely take some time before it is completed.

There is no foreign aid on this specific project, and the government has approved a cost of Rs. 800 million. This project will receive an additional 50 million rupees in funding from 2023 to 2024.

Other Development Projects

The document’s IT section also highlights a number of other government initiatives, including the development of a technology park, four additional knowledge parks, an online application process for the Federal Public Service Commission, smart offices for federal ministries and departments, the expansion of broadband services in Kashmir and Gilgit, and many others.
