Eid ul Adha: Banks to Remain Closed for Four Days

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced on Wednesday that it would be closed for Eid ul Adha from June 29 to 30.

Because of this, all commercial banks nationwide will be closed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

A three-day holiday for Eid ul Adha had already been approved by the federal government the day before.

According to a statement from the Cabinet Division, the Prime Minister is pleased to approve the public holidays for Eid-ul-Azha as follows:

  • for offices that observe five days of work per week, June 29–30, 2023 (Thursday and Friday);
  • Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 29–July 1, 2023, for offices that observe six days of work per week.

Eid ul Adha will be observed nationwide on June 29 (Thursday) as a result of the Zil Hajj moon being sighted by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Monday.

The decision was made public following a meeting of the moon sighting committee, which was presided over by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The Ruet-e-Hilal committee chairman reported receiving reports of moon sightings from a number of cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and others.
