Ashura 2023: Banks To Remain Closed For Three Days

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has declared a two-day bank holiday on July 28th and 29th, 2023 (Friday to Saturday) in observance of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1445 A.H.).

These dates hold significance as they commemorate the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions during the battle of Karbala.

The federal government has also announced public holidays for Muharram 9 and 10 throughout the country. To ensure the smooth conduct of Ashura activities, the Government of Sindh has imposed measures, including the prohibition of pillion riding on these two days under Section 144 of the CrPC.

Additionally, in light of security concerns during the holy month of Muharram, the federal government has authorised the deployment of armed forces across the nation to maintain peace and security. This measure is taken to facilitate the peaceful observance of religious events and ensure the safety of citizens during this sacred time.
