In a significant tribute, a street located in Queens, the largest of New York City’s five boroughs, has been dedicated to Pakistan’s national poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Iqbal, a revered visionary figure renowned for his profound contributions to literature, philosophy, and his pivotal role in inspiring the establishment of Pakistan, has now received this honour.

This development coincides with the forthcoming Pakistan Independence Day. A ceremonial event took place in the Richmond Hill district of Queens, marking the official inauguration of ‘Allama Iqbal Avenue.’ The occasion saw the vibrant Pakistani Diaspora participate enthusiastically, chanting slogans of ‘Pakistan ZindaBad’ while proudly waving the national flag.
The concerted efforts of Pakistani-American community members and various NGOs paved the way for the christening of the road in honour of the Poet of the East.

The Pakistani Ambassador to the US, Masood Khan, along with other officials, extended their appreciation to the American Pakistani group for their dedicated endeavors.
The Speaker of the New York City Council expressed his privilege in commemorating the co-naming of the street as ‘Allama Iqbal Avenue’ just ahead of Pakistan’s Independence Day. He also lauded the visionary work that ultimately led to the formation of an independent Pakistan.
