The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has claimed the top spot as the leading destination for Indian employment abroad, as disclosed by V Muraleedharan, the Minister of State for External Affairs.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India’s Parliament, he highlighted that the current Indian workforce in the UAE stands at 3.554 million individuals.

This statistic, shared in response to a question posed by Dr. Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, Member of Parliament (MP), demonstrates a notable increase of over 134,000 Indians within a year.
The UAE’s employment appeal is underscored by its rise from last year’s figure of 3.419 million Indians. This surge reinforces the UAE’s status as a preferred choice among Indians seeking international job opportunities.
Alongside the UAE, the Gulf region prominently features as a prime destination for Indian workers, encompassing Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, in descending order of Indian workforce numbers. Collectively, these nations employ a total of 7.932 million Indians, as highlighted by Muraleedharan.

Acknowledging the significance of supporting expatriate Indian workers, the Indian government has set up Overseas Indian Help Centres in Dubai, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Kuala Lumpur.
These centres aim to offer comprehensive guidance and counselling, facilitating the seamless integration of Indian workers into their host countries. Additionally, the Minister noted the existence of dedicated Labour Wings within Indian diplomatic missions across the Gulf nations, further emphasizing India’s commitment to supporting its workforce abroad.
