A viral online video depicted the instant when Saudi Arabia’s renowned Clock Tower in Makkah – overseeing the Kaaba – was struck by lightning.
Photographer Youssef Bajjash captured the moment when the powerful bolt struck the world’s biggest clock tower, illuminating the entire city.

Speaking to Al Arabiya, Bajjash stated: “When the clouds started forming in Makkah, I positioned myself to capture the lightning flash.”

“I managed to seize the moment when lightning struck the Makkah Clock Tower, leading to this magnificent spectacle.”
Makkah has experienced heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, prompting the National Centre of Meteorology to raise the alert level to red – the highest level.

Al Arabiya also shared videos taken by witnesses of cleaners in the courtyards of the Holy Kaaba struggling to maintain their position as strong winds pushed them around.
