The release of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max represents one of the most significant upgrades to the iPhone lineup since the original Pro Max in 2019. These Pro models now come with USB-C support, allowing you to use the same cable as other Apple devices or share them with Android users.
Design and Display
The screen sizes remain unchanged from the previous year, with the Pro featuring a 6.1-inch display and the Pro Max sporting a 6.7-inch one. Both screens are equipped with 120Hz OLED panels and can reach a peak brightness of 2000 nits. Apple has swapped stainless steel for titanium frames in the new Pro models, resulting in the lightest Pro devices ever with slimmer bezels. The mute switch has been reimagined as an action button, allowing for single or double presses to trigger various actions.
Internals and Software
Under the hood, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are powered by the cutting-edge A17 Pro chip, a groundbreaking achievement as the first chip built on a 3nm process. This powerhouse features a 6-core processor, including 2 high-performance cores claimed to be 10% faster than the A16 Bionic, along with 4 efficiency cores.
The GPU is a 6-core unit, offering a 20% performance boost and introducing hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing, which is four times faster than the previous software-based Ray Tracing. Apple showcased console games like Resident Evil Village and Assassin’s Creed Mirage running smoothly on these devices during the presentation.
Storage options for these models now extend up to 1TB, and they run on iOS 17.
Cameras
The camera system has received a significant overhaul. The primary camera boasts a 48MP sensor with second-generation sensor-shift stabilization. The ultrawide module is also upgraded with 100% focus pixels and macro capabilities. Both the Pro and Pro Max share these camera improvements. However, the Pro Max stands out with its periscope zoom lens, a first for Apple, enabling 5x zoom and leveraging advanced lens technology for enhanced brightness.
Battery and Pricing
Specific battery details are yet to be disclosed, but Apple has equipped these phones with USB-C ports like the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, offering faster USB 3.0 transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 with a base model featuring 128GB of storage, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199, now offering a base model with a generous 256GB of storage.
