The UAE Cabinet introduced a 10-year visa called the “Blue Residency” for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection.
This includes people involved in areas like marine life, land-based ecosystems, air quality, sustainability technologies, circular economy, and related fields. The initiative was announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum during a Cabinet meeting in Abu Dhabi.
Eligibility for Blue Residency Visa
The Blue Residency visa is open to:
- Members of international organizations
- Members of international companies
- Members of associations and NGOs
- Global award winners
- Notable activists and researchers in environmental work
Interested individuals can apply through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security or be nominated by competent authorities. Additionally, the UAE offers 10-year Golden Visas to investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, outstanding students and graduates, humanitarian pioneers, and frontline heroes.
Other Cabinet Decisions
Apart from the Blue Residency announcement, the Cabinet made several other decisions, including the approval of the National Youth Agenda 2031, a national framework for higher education institution classification, and regulations for marketing calls in the UAE.
They also reviewed achievements in the UAE space sector, established committees to combat commercial fraud and statistics, and restructured committees for artificial intelligence and sustainable aviation fuel. Furthermore, they approved guidelines for using generative artificial intelligence in the government and ratified investment agreements with India and Korea.
