Green Meters Used in Solar System Banned

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has banned the use of green meters commonly found in solar systems, according to a report on Tuesday.

Instead, LESCO will now require the installation of Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters. Sarwar Mughal, Director of Customer Services, issued a notification enforcing the ban on green meters.

Under the new directive, LESCO will issue a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the purchase of AMI meters for solar connections. Consumers will then need to buy these meters from the market based on the NOC. However, this change will result in an additional financial burden of Rs20,000 for consumers.

The price difference between AMI meters and green meters is twenty thousand rupees. The installation of AMI meters is expected to address issues such as overbilling and electricity theft.
