All You Need To Know About Roshan Gharana’ Solar Initiative

Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has given initial approval to the ‘Roshan Gharana’ program, which aims to provide solar panels to households using up to 500 units of electricity. This announcement was made on July 9.

Roshan Gharana Program

CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated, “The Punjab government will offer solar systems to millions of consumers who use between 50 to 500 units of electricity. The government will cover 90% of the cost, and consumers will pay 10%.” A cabinet meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to approve the ‘Roshan Gharana’ program formally. This initiative responds to the rising electricity costs and ongoing energy crisis. Solar panels will be provided in easy installments over five years to ease the financial burden on consumers. “We will support people in difficult times and aim to reduce the impact of past challenges,” the CM added.

In the first phase, solar systems will be distributed to the poorest families through a transparent process. The installment amounts will be lower in winter, and the government will be the sole supplier of the panels. The mix of government electricity and solar-generated electricity will be determined based on users’ needs.

Security Meeting

Additionally, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the provincial Apex Committee. The meeting included the Commander Lahore Corps, Chief Secretary Punjab, IG Police Punjab, and other senior government, intelligence, and military officials.

The committee reviewed the security situation in the province and discussed measures for public safety and national security, following the revised National Action Plan. The committee also reviewed security arrangements for foreign nationals, including Chinese employees on CPEC and non-CPEC projects. An elaborate security plan for the month of Muharram was also discussed to ensure peace and harmony using high-tech monitoring and a tiered deployment of security forces.
