Leading automakers are embracing electric vehicle (EV) technology and updating their lineups to meet Pakistan’s growing consumer demand for EVs.
Later this year, Lucky Motor Corporation plans to introduce the latest range of Kia battery electric vehicles, including updated models like the Sportage and Sorento and the new EV5 and EV9.
The Kia EV9, designed for modern electric mobility, can seat up to seven passengers and features ultra-fast charging capabilities with 400V and 800V systems. The Kia EV5, an electric SUV, offers an impressive range of up to 665 km on a single charge.
The EV9 has garnered prestigious accolades, winning the ‘World Electric Vehicle’ and ‘World Car of the Year’ awards in 2024.
A few years ago, Pakistan implemented its electric vehicle policy to promote the adoption of EVs and reduce the nation’s carbon footprint.
About Kia EV5
The EV9 lineup starts with the rear-wheel-drive Light trim, featuring a single rear motor with 215 horsepower. The Light Long Range version also has rear-wheel drive but a larger battery, reducing its power to 201 horsepower.
All-wheel-drive models have dual motors, a combined 379 horsepower, and a Boost mode for more torque and faster acceleration. In tests, the all-wheel-drive EV9 reached 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, which is much quicker than the gas-powered Telluride’s 6.5 seconds. A high-performance GT model, expected in 2025, might offer up to 576 horsepower.
Driving the EV9 is enjoyable, with a smooth ride on highways and a one-pedal driving feature that brings the SUV to a stop smoothly.
What’s New for 2024?
The EV9 is a new addition to the Kia lineup and part of the company’s goal to introduce 11 new electric vehicles by 2026.
