Free Meal Program Starts in Govt ICT Schools

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has initiated the implementation of a free food program in federal government educational institutions across the Islamabad Capital Territory.

As part of the initial phase, approximately 40 primary schools are scheduled to receive mid-day meals this week. Specifically, out of these 40 schools, 20 schools located in the Tarnol and Nelore sectors will be the first to benefit from the provision of free meals for children.

The Secretary of Education, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, announced the introduction of free meals for children alongside the provision of other essential facilities in primary schools operating under the Federal Directorate of Education.

Addressing the media, the Secretary of Education highlighted the significance of the meal programme, emphasizing that children are being provided lunch with the support of the government and the Allah Waley Trust. Wani further mentioned that the meal distribution will gradually expand to include all primary schools within the next two months.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), 2.14 million children in different regions of Pakistan are presently experiencing acute malnutrition (AMN), which is a worrying development.
